Recently, I had the privilege of being involved in an impactful campaign to break the stigma surrounding menopause. Speaking at the GMB union’s Cardiff offices alongside the inspiring Carolyn Harris MP, was an incredibly significant experience. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to contribute to such an essential cause and share my thoughts on this topic. Today, I wanted to reflect on the talk and express my gratitude for being part of this campaign.
Menopause is a natural and inevitable phase of life for many individuals. However, it is often clouded by unnecessary taboos and misunderstandings. The #SmashTheStigma campaign aims to shatter these barriers, allowing for open conversations and increased support for those going through menopause.
During the talk, I had the chance to share my own experiences with menopause. Opening up about this personal journey was initially intimidating, but the supportive environment created by the GMB union and campaign organisers allowed me to feel safe and encouraged. I realised that by speaking openly, I not only helped myself but also contributed to a larger narrative of empowerment and empathy.
One of the key pillars of the #SmashTheStigma campaign is raising awareness. By shedding light on the realities of menopause, we can dispel myths, challenge misconceptions, and foster a better understanding among colleagues, friends, and family members. This increased awareness leads to more inclusive and accommodating workplaces, where menopausal individuals can thrive without unnecessary obstacles.
Being part of a talk alongside Carolyn Harris, was truly inspiring. Her dedication to championing menopausal rights and better support in society is commendable. Together, we demonstrated that collaboration between policymakers, unions, and individuals can create meaningful change.
The fight against stigma doesn’t end with a single talk or campaign. It is an ongoing process of education, understanding, and support. I am grateful to have been part of the #SmashTheStigma initiative and pledge to continue advocating for better menopausal awareness, empathy, and inclusivity.
As I reflect on my involvement in the #SmashTheStigma campaign, I am filled with gratitude and a sense of purpose. Breaking the silence surrounding menopause is a cause worth fighting for. By sharing our stories, raising awareness, and uniting voices, we can create a world that embraces menopausal individuals with compassion and support. Let’s keep smashing the stigma, one conversation at a time.
