What does it really mean to embed wellbeing into a law firm?

At Watkins & Gunn, it means far more than standalone initiatives or occasional campaigns—it means building a culture where people genuinely come first.

Over recent years, the firm has worked to ensure wellbeing is deeply rooted in everyday life at Watkins & Gunn. It is reflected in leadership behaviours, open communication, and the structures designed to ensure colleagues feel supported, valued, and able to thrive. This long‑term commitment has shaped the development of Wellness & Gunn, the firm’s dedicated wellbeing programme, which has become a cornerstone of its values-led approach.

This commitment recently took centre stage in a special episode of the Legal Sector Resilience Podcast, hosted by Emma Waddingham as part of the Legal News Wales Awards series. Watkins & Gunn’s Clive Thomas, Katie O’Connell, and Emma Taylor joined Emma to discuss how the firm has embedded wellbeing into its strategy—and what it takes to build a genuinely resilient legal workplace.

During the episode, the team explored the practical ways wellbeing has become part of firm-wide culture, from structured support systems to open conversations and leadership-driven initiatives. They also reflected on the transformative impact that a clear and consistent wellbeing strategy has had on both the organisation and the people within it.

This approach has not only strengthened the firm internally—it has also been formally recognised. Watkins & Gunn is proud to have received the Wellbeing Strategy of the Year 2025 award, acknowledging its sustained commitment to fostering a healthy, supportive, and high-performing workplace.
