Military Deafness

If you believe you are suffering from hearing loss and/or tinnitus caused by noise exposure during your Armed Forces career, you may be able to make a claim for civil compensation.  You are entitled to claim even if:

Hearing loss is often not immediately apparent and can be so gradual that you may not even realise that you have been a victim of noise induced hearing loss.

The typical markers for noise induced hearing loss include:

• Being told by family members that the television/radio is too loud
• Asking people to repeat themselves
• Having difficulty understanding conversations in crowded rooms
• Hearing muffled speech

Many people who suffer from hearing loss also report hearing a ringing, whooshing, humming or buzzing in the ears which is more commonly known as tinnitus.

In some cases ears are so sensitive that sufferers report feeling pain in their ears when they are exposed to loud noises (known as hyperacusis).

* ‘No win no fee‘ means that we will act under a Conditional Fee Agreement. Under this agreement you will not pay our legal fees if your claim is unsuccessful, and if your claim succeeds you will pay a success fee which we will explain clearly and in writing before you decide to proceed. However, there are circumstances where you may still have to pay costs whether you win or lose. These can include paying disbursements (expenses) such as medical report fees, court fees, or payments to experts. We will recommend taking out an After‑the‑Event insurance policy, if you do not have existing cover, and you will be required to pay the premium for the policy in the event of a successful claim, depending on the policy terms. There are also situations where substantial costs can arise, for example, if you decide to stop your claim part‑way through, in which case you may be charged for work already carried out on an hourly rate; if third‑party costs have been incurred on your behalf; or, in rare cases, if the claim is not managed properly, it could result in you being liable for the other party’s costs.
