Watkins and Gunn Solicitors are among the first in the country to become a member of the Law Society’s new Wills and Inheritance Quality Scheme (WIQS).

Watkins & Gunn underwent a rigorous application and assessment process by the Law Society to become WIQS accredited, which recognises high quality in will writing, probate and estate administration services.

Members of WIQS must adhere to the first Law Society Protocol for wills and estate administration. This provides practical guidelines and recommended best practice at all key stages of the wills and probate process.

Clive Thomas, Managing Partner at Watkins & Gunn Solicitors said: “We are very pleased to join the Law Society’s Wills and Inheritance Quality Scheme. Our membership means clients can have confidence in the work we carry out for them.

“A poorly drafted will can be a very expensive and distressing legacy for your family. Being a member of WIQS means that clients can be reassured that we have the necessary expertise to deliver wills and inheritance advice.”

Law Society president Nicholas Fluck said the WIQS scheme offers greater consumer protection from poorly drafted wills. “Preparing a will is one of the biggest and most important decisions a person can make. If it isn’t done properly, the consequences can be dire. Thousands of people die every year without making a will or without a properly drafted will.

“Only a solicitor is qualified to make a will which maximises tax saving or planning in estates, as this requires a considerable knowledge of law. Too many people have fallen foul of unregulated will writers and it is usually their loved ones left to sort out the mess in the aftermath. Using a WIQS approved firm provides an additional level of reassurance to consumers that their affairs are in safe hands.”

Watkins & Gunn Solicitors, which has offices in Newport, Cardiff and Pontypool, is also a member  of the Law Society's Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) - the mark of excellence for the home buying process.
