SOLICITORS “ SWIM THE CHANNEL” FOR CHARITY!
Gwent solicitors Watkins and Gunn have just completed a Channel swim for charity, raising an impressive £534 for ASPIRE, the Association for Spinal Injury Research Rehabilitation and Reintegration.
Organised by the firm’s personal injury department, the team of 6 –Clive Thomas, Lynette Vaughan, Lisa Guscott, Ann Mapp, Tracey Allen and Carolyn Hale– had to “Swim the Channel” - that is 22 miles at their local swimming pools over a period of 3 months. They finally logged some 45 miles, the equivalent of swimming the channel and back again, mainly at the Esporta health club in Cwmbran.
Clive Thomas, Partner and Head of the Personal Injury Department at Watkins & Gunn said, “ASPIRE is a charity that helps change the lives of those who have spinal cord injuries. Working in personal injury, we have a natural affinity for this charity. Thank you to all those who have so generously sponsored us. I am very proud of my team-I challenged them to swim the channel and they not only swam it but then swam back again - you can’t ask for much more than that - perhaps we should go for the real thing next year!”
A representative from the charity said, “Aspire receives statutory funding, so our hugely important work is totally reliant on the generous fundraisers that support us. We are delighted that Clive and his team donned their swimming costumes for us and raised a tremendous amount of money which will go towards ensuring that people with spinal cord injuries have the independence that most of us take for granted. “
